Returned to service for Auckland Transport in 2008. Wore a non-standard version of the MAXX livery, with the number on the hood of the locomotive (in place of the word MAXX). Used as a T3 test train while at Hutt. After the withdrawal of SA sets in Auckland in 2015, the locomotive was stored at Hutt in the interim before receiving the KiwiRail livery and returning to service, becoming the first and only ex-MAXX DC to be repainted. Withdrawn in 2018. Sold to Martinus Rail in Australia in 2020.
